ASU Hornets Sting Rattlers 8-2 In Series Opener

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 13) - The Florida A&M Baseball team dropped a 8-2 decision to Southwestern Athletic Conference member Alabama State, here Tuesday evening at Moore-Kittles Field.

FAMU finished the game with a game-high 10 hits, while Alabama State finished the game with eight.

Scott Sheplak went three-for-four from the plate to lead the Rattlers, while Richard Amion tallied two hits in three at-bats to lead the Hornets.

ASU (5-13) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Amion scored on a FAMU balk.

The Hornets added two more runs in the top of the third as Einar Muniz scored on a Waldyvan Estrada sacrifice fly.  ASU's Richard Gonzalez scored on a FAMU infielder's error, giving the Hornets a 3-0 lead.

FAMU (3-14) picked up a run in the bottom of the third to cut ASU's lead to 3-1 as Daniel Lee scored on a Reginald Grant single up the middle.

The Hornets scored two more runs in the top of the sixth to take a 5-1 lead.

FAMU would score their final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth as Reid scored on a Justin Abney fielder's choice, cutting the Hornets' led to 5-2.

ASU would pick up three more runs for the 8-2 final as they scored one run in the eighth and two runs in the top of the ninth.

The Rattlers will return to action on Wednesday, March 14 as they will conclude their two-game series with Alabama State at 3 p.m. at Moore-Kittles Field.
