Heath Blackburn got the win for the Rattlers as he pitched seven and two-thirds innings. He allowed seven hits and four earned runs, also carding two strikeouts. Corey Franklin pitched two-thirds of an inning in relief. He allowed one run on one hit and two walks. Tony Covington came in with two outs in the ninth to strike out one of the two batters he faced and stop the late game rally by the Aggies.
Dylan West led the Rattlers with three hits in five at-bats. West would also score a run for FAMU. Ryan Sheplak, Jared Walker, Jarryd Reid and Franklin would muster two hits each. As a team, the Rattlers got 14 hits in the game. Franklin and Reid scored two runs each.
Even in the win, the Rattlers left scoring on the base path as 12 runners were stranded for the game.
FAMU got off to a hot start in the first, scoring three runs and shutting out the Aggies. No additional runs would be scored by either team until the fifth inning, where FAMU got two runs and NCAT got their first run of the game. The sixth and seventh innings would be scoreless, but FAMU got two more runs in the eighth, while NCAT palted three. The Rattlers would go down without a score in the top of the ninth. The Aggies would score one run in the ninth, but Franklin would close out the game, cutting the rally short.
Kelvin Freeman and Luke Tendler got two hits and scored one run each for the Aggies. Brent Moore took the loss for NCAT. He pitched five innings, giving up four runs, 11 hits and two strikeouts. Reliever Joe Mackey gave up two runs on three hits.
The Rattlers will return to action on Tues., Apr. 10 in Orlando,FL as they face the Knights of UCF in a 6:30 p.m. start.
