Lady Rattlers Dominate From Start To Finish 88-57

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 1) - The Florida A&M Women's Basketball ended the 2011-2012 regular with an 88-57 win over Morgan State, here Thursday evening at the Alfred Lawson Center.

FAMU (21-7) finished the season with 21 wins on the year, the second most in school history. The last the Lady Rattlers's team to  garner 21 wins was during the 1995-96 (21-7), 1987-88 (21-9) and 1985-86 (21-8) season. The most wins a FAMU Lady Rattler team has amazed was 24, when the Lady Rattlers finished the 1944-95 season 24-6.

The Lady Rattlers were led by Jasmine Grice as he scored a team high 20 points from off the bench, followed by Tameka McKelton with 16, while Kimberly Sparkman finished with 10. Both Qiana Donald and Antonia Bennett finished with a double-double for the Lady Rattlers as Bennett finished the game with 15 points and 12 rebounds and Donald tallied 15 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

MSU (6-23, 3-13 MEAC) was paced by Keirah Hicks as she scored a team high 17 points, followed by Amarah Williams with 12. Tracey Carrington led the Lady Bears on the board with six.

The Lady Rattlers grabbed a 27-15 lead as Bennette nailed a jumper with 7:58 left in the first, capping a 14-2 run by FAMU

FAMU would then go into the break with a 43-31 lead as the Lady Rattlers finished the first half shooting 34.1 percent (15-of-44), while the Lady Bears shot 36.1 percent (13-of-36).

The Lady Rattlers opened the second half with a 12-6 run to take a 55-37 lead on a Grice field goal with 13:32 to go in the game.

FAMU would then extend their lead to much as 31 points as the Lady Rattlers went on to win the contest 88-57.

The Lady Rattlers finished the contest shooting 39.0 percent (32-of-82) from the floor, while the Lady Bears finished the contest shooting 39.1 percent (25-of-64).

FAMU held the rebounding margin over MSU, 54-39.

The Lady Rattlers will return to action on Thursday, March 8 as they sewed up the No. 3 seed in the 2012 Mid-Eastern Athletic Basketball Tournament at Joel Lawrence Coliseum in Winston-Salem, N.C..
