In a nip and tuck first half, the Lady Rattlers built a 16-7 lead on a Tameka McKelton three-pointer with 7:18 to go in the first period.
SSU would pull within two as they cut FAMU's lead to 17-15 on a pair of Exinne Kalu free throws with 2:02 left in the first half. FAMU would finish the first half with a 7-2 run as they took a 24-17 lead into a break.
The Lady Rattlers would finish the first half shooting 26.9 percent (7-of-26) from the floor, while Lady Tigers shot 17.9 percent (5-of-28).
In the second half, FAMU would take a 29-19 lead on a McKelton three-pointer with 17:45 to go in the second.
A Zadous Pollard three-pointer would knot the game at 43-43, capping a 12-2 run by SSU with 5:26 to go in the game. The Lady Tigers would tie the game at 46-46 on Kalu three pointer with 4:55 left in the game.
A pair of free throws by Qiana Donald would give FAMU a 48-46 lead with 4:08 left as the Lady Rattlers pulled away for the 55-50 win.
FAMU (11-5, 4-0 MEAC) was led by Antonia Bennett as she finished with a double-double, scoring 13 points and pulling down 13 rebounds. Jasmine Grice also finished with 13 points, followed by Tameka McKelton with 12.
SSU (6-10, 1-4 MEAC) was paced by Ezinne Kalu as she scored a game high 25 points, while Alsiha Nelson led the Lady Tigers on the boards with 12 rebounds.
The Lady Rattlers will return to action on Monday as they will host South Carolina State on Monday, January 16 at the Al Lawson Center in a 5:30 p.m. start.
