Lady Rattlers Finish Second In Shaw Tournament

SUMTER, S.C. (Dec. 4) The Florida A&M Bowling team finished second in their second Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Division tournament of the season, this past weekend at Shaw Lanes on the grounds of Shaw Air Force Base.

FAMU finished the event 8-2 overall and in MEAC play.

In head-to-head competition, the Lady Rattlers picked up four wins as they defeated North Carolina Central, 874-749 in their first match.

FAMU would then pull out an 874-840 win over instate rival Bethune-Cookman in their second match. Norfolk State would hand the Lady Rattlers their only defeat on the day as the Spartans downed the Lady Rattlers 964-797.

The Lady Rattlers would finish the day picking up wins over North Carolina A&T (822-770) and South Carolina State (824-748).

In Baker play, the Lady Rattlers would finished the day 4-1 as they defeated North Carolina Central 740-627 in their first Baker match.

FAMU would then edge B-CU 650-637 in their secondBaker match of the day. The Spartans would hand the Lady Rattlers their only loss of the day once again as NSU defeated FAMU 701-617.

The Lady Rattlers would win their final two Baker matches of the day as they defeated North Carolina A&T (688-557) and South Carolina State (612-611).

FAMU was led by both Katherine Jones and Wittney Myers as they both finished with a 906 total pin fall.

Jones bowled a team high 225 in the Lady Rattlers' win over NCCU, while Myers bowled a team high in the Lady Rattlers win over B-CU.

Janell Dykes finished the match eighth overall as she tallied an 887 total pin fall.   She bowled a personal best 200 against B-CU.

Lauren Matthews and Jetawun Griffin rounded out the cast of the Lady Rattlers finishers as Matthews finished the match with 756 total pin fall, while Griffin tallied a 736 total pin fall.

The Lady Rattlers will return action in the New Year as they will travel to Lincoln, Neb., to participate in the Big Red Invitational, hosted by the University of Nebraska, Jan. 19 through Jan. 21.
