Lady Rattlers Off To A Solid Start At Icebreaker

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Dec.8) - Coach Darlene Moore's Lady Rattlers track team set a good mark in their opening meet of the indoor season. Fueled by a solid team effort, the Lady Rattlers won some of the top events at the tournament at the Birmingham Ice Breaker Invitational at the Birmingham Crossplex.In all, the Lady Rattlers qualified for the MEAC Championships in 12 events.

Ariel Allen took home first place in the 400m and 800m runs. In the 400m run, she took the flag with a run of 57.66 and followed that with a 2:14.41 time in the 800m run.

Dynasty Jones took second place in the 400m run in a time of 58:09. Jeanette Hulse cracked the top 10, with an eighth place finish at 59.84.

In the 800m run, Allen was followed closely by Chandelic Jackson, who finished third in a time of 2:18.83. Simone Durden rounded out the Lady Rattlers in the top five, with a time of 2:19.85, to finish fourth.

As a team, the Lady Rattlers (Team A), won the 4x400m relay. The team finished in 3:52.89 to top all competitors in the meet.

Freshman Jasmine Smith displayed some of her state championship speed as she sprinted to a second place finish in the 60m dash in 7.60 in her first collegiate meet. She would also run a leg on the winning 4x400m relay team. Nakia Linson finished fifth in the 60m dash in 7.69. Jasmine Pleasant finished in 7.81, which was good for ninth place. Richena Louis cadrd a 7.84 for finish 11th.

In the 200m dash, Smith led the Lady Rattler finishers in 24.90, which was good for fourth place. Linson finished in 25.26, good for seventh place. Louis followed her closely with a 25.51 finish, good for ninth place. Pleasant would make the top 20, with a 26.18 time.

Durden has continued to impress with her grit. She finished the mile run in 5:19.08, whch was good for third place. Jackson took fourth in 5:19.69, Nichola Listhrop took fifth in 5:20.30 and Nadine Mulvaney completed the quartet of runners packed together taking sixth place in a 5:23.53 time.

Mulvaney would lead all Lady Rattlers in the 300m run. She finished eighth at 10:47.23. Ciera Williams (11:32.87) and Keelyn Fleming ( 12:33.53) finished 12th and 13th respectively.

As a team the FAMU distance medley team finished fourth in 12:54.89.

In the high jump, Stephanie Colter cleared 4-10.25 to take 11th place.  Brittany Brown finished eighth in the pole vault at 8-08.25. Linson would card a 17-11.75 distance, which was good for fifth place in the long jump.

In the shot put, Sasha-Ann Lebert finished with an impressive 44-05.25 toss, which was good for second place. Shamona Haughton placed seventh at 34-01.25. Haughton (37-10.75) and Clark (34.02.25) took 12th and 14th place in the women's weight throw.

Colter and Brittany Jones competed in the women's pentathlon. Colter's set was highlighted by a fifth place finish in the high jump at 5-02.25. Jones' set was highlighted by an eighth place finish in the 800m run. Overall, Jones finished 10th (2184) in the pentathlon and Colter finished 12th (1901).
