NORFOLK, Va.—The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced today the 2017 MEAC Softball All-Academic team, including 90 student-athletes who achieved academic success during the 2016-17 school year. The MEAC recognizes student-athletes with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average, including sophomores, juniors and seniors, as well as transfer student-athletes who have been in residence at the institution for at least one year.
Director of Athletics, Milton Overton Jr., was pleased with he players who garnered the conference honor. “We are extremely proud of our young ladies who have excelled both in the classroom and on the field. The young ladies fought on the field to win another conference title, while maintaining focus in the classroom, and excelling in the classroom as well. That is symbolic of a great recruiting effort and nurturing toward graduation by coach Veronica Wiggins and the FAMU Athletics Academic Staff,” Overton said.
MEAC sophomore, junior and senior student-athletes with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average (GPA), as well as transfer student-athletes who have been in residence at the institution for at least one year, are eligible for All-Academic accolades.
“On behalf of the conference, I commend our softball student-athletes who have maintained a 3.0 or better grade point average during this academic school year,” said MEAC Commissioner Dr. Dennis E. Thomas. “I would also like to acknowledge the efforts of the institutional and athletic academic support staff, coaches and parents who all played a vital role in the success of student-athletes both on the field and in the classroom.”
