TALLAHASSEE, FL (Feb. 14) – The FAMU Lady Rattlers (1-3, 0-0 MEAC) fell to the No.8 FSU Seminoles (5-0, 0-0 ACC) 9-0 in the home season opener for the Seminoles.  FAMU was able to muster just one hit, while FSU banged out five, with nine RBI, at JoAnne Graf Field.

Toni Anderson got FAMU’s lone hit.  Anderson’s double was a spark for the Lady Rattlers, but she eventually would be left on base. Tyra Bowers and Mackenzie Woodard reached bas on walks, but were not able to advance to scoring position.

Veronica Burse took the mound for FAMU, going three and one third innings.  She gave up eight hits and seven earned runs in the loss.  Kyaira Brown finished the game in a mop-up role on the mound.  She pitched the last two thirds of an inning, facing just two batters, striking out one.

FSU was led by Sydney Sherrill, who went 2-for-3 at the plate.  She added one RBI to her statline.  Morgan Klavemann, Jessie Warren, Cali Harrod, Zoe Casas, Anna Shelnutt and Korina Rosario rounded out the cast of Seminoles garnering one base hit each.

The Lady Rattlers were unable to handle the off-speed pitches of Kylee Hanson as she gave up the lone hit to Anderson, while gathering nine strikeouts.  Savanna Copeland came on in relief for the final inning and got three consecutive batters out.

The final score was in 4.5 innings as the game was halted due to the 8-run rule.

What’s next: The Lady Rattlers will travel to Orlando this weekend to face Quinnipiac, George Washington, UCF, Hofstra and Texas Tech.
