TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Apr. 7) – The FAMU Softball team closed its’ 2019 home schedule Sunday morning with a nationally-televised 8-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference victory over visiting Savannah State at the Lady Rattler Softball Complex.
Tallahassee native and junior pitcher Kyaira Brown (11-8) went the distance for her second win in the weekend series Sunday, limiting Savannah State (7-22, 1-8 MEAC) to just two hits, striking out nine against two walks,
Her dominant performance was crucial, as the Rattlers (15-22, 6-0 MEAC), didn’t get cranking offensive until the fourth inning, when they pushed across two runs for a 2-0 lead, followed by a single tally in the fifth, and the game-clinching five-run outbreak in the bottom of the sixth which ended the game via eight-run rule after five innings.
FAMU, which finished with 13 hits, had five players with two hits including Kyaira Brown, Taylor Rosier, Tyra Bowers, Alexis Day and Seriah Brokenborough.
Rosier led FAMU with three RBIs, followed by Day, who drove in a pair of runs, while Brown, Hera Varmah, and Brandice Boatwright each picked up an RBI.
WHAT’S ON DECK: The Rattlers open a 10-game regular season-ending road swing Wednesday at North Florida (5:00) in Jacksonville.
