GREENSBORO, N.C. (Apr. 15) – The FAMU Women’s Softball Team completed a three-game Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Southern Division series sweep of North Carolina A&T Monday afternoon with a 13-2 romp.
FAMU (18-23, 9-0 MEAC) pounded Aggie pitching for 14 hits, paced by senior Tyra Bowers, who went four for five, with a double, three runs scored and an RBI.
Freshman Seriah Brokenborough had three hits and three RBI, while Tallahassean Taylor Rosier drove in a pair of runs, as did third baseman Hera Varmah. Alexis Day and Alexis Blasingane both added two hits for FAMU Monday.
The Rattlers, which scored 36 runs in the three-game series, got on the board first on Day’s RBI single, which scored Bowers for a 1-0 lead in the first.
FAMU extended their lead to 4-0 with a three-run third inning, keyed by Brokenborough’s three-run double to right field.
In the sixth, FAMU moved the count to 7-0, on an RBI single by Bowers, and a two-run single by Rosier.
The Aggies scored their lone runs of the game in the bottom of the sixth, but FAMU answered with a six-run seventh, keyed by Varmah’s two-run double, and an RBI single by Sydney Worthy.
Junior pitcher Kyaira Brown (12-8), went the distance, striking out seven, and walking one, scattering 10 hits and allowing the two runs in the sixth.
WHAT’S ON DECK: FAMU will head to Orangeburg, S.C. for an Easter Weekend series against South Carolina State, Friday and Saturday.
