MEAC Tennis Seedings Set: FAMU Women #1, Men #2

NORFOLK, Va., April 23, 2018—The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) has announced the seedings for the 2018 Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships which will be held Thursday through Saturday, April 26-28, at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center on the campus of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va.

 On the Women’s side, Hampton captured the Northern Division top seed, while Florida A&M notched the No. 1 slot in the Southern Division.   In the Men’s division, Morgan State claimed the Northern Division’s top seed on the men’s side, with South Carolina State earning the Southern Division’s No. 1 seed, and defending champion FAMU clinching the No. 2 slot.

The 2018 MEAC Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships will begin with women’s quarterfinal action on Thursday at 8:30 a.m., while the men’s quarterfinal matches will begin at 1:30 p.m. Semifinal action begins at 9 a.m. on Friday with the women’s matches; men’s semifinals will start at 12 p.m.   Saturday’s championship matches will kick off at 9 a.m. for the women and 12 p.m. for the men.


Morgan State’s men claimed the Northern Division’s top seed by going a perfect 4-0 in conference play this season, clinching with a 4-2 win over Norfolk State on April 15. The Spartans (3-1) earned the division’s No. 2 seed, while Hampton (2-2) and Howard (1-3) racked up the No. 3 and 4 seeds, respectively. 

In the Southern Division, South Carolina State went a perfect 4-0 in MEAC play to clinch the top seed. Florida A&M (3-1) wound up with the No. 2 seed, while Bethune-Cookman (2-2) and North Carolina Central (1-3) rounded out the Southern Division field on the men’s side.  

@ Morgan State will take on North Carolina Central in quarterfinal action on Thursday at 1:30 p.m.; simultaneously, South Carolina State will take on Howard. The 4 p.m. matches on Thursday will be Florida A&M vs. Hampton and Norfolk State vs. Bethune-Cookman.


Hampton went 6-0 in women’s conference play to rack up the top seed in the Northern Division, while M0organ State (5-1) picked up the division’s No. 2 seed. Howard (4-2) be the Northern Division’s No. 3 seed.   Norfolk State (3-3) picked up the division’s No. 4 seed with wins over Coppin State and Maryland Eastern Shore this past week.  

In the Southern Division, both Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman went 4-1 in conference play, but the Rattlers’ 5-2 win over the Wildcats on April 14 gave them the top seed. Bethune-Cookman will be the No. 2 seed, while South Carolina State, the defending MEAC champion, went 3-2 in MEAC play to grab the No. 3 seed.   North Carolina A&T State (2-3) will be the Southern Division’s No. 4 seed.  

@ The Lady Pirates will kick off action on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. against North Carolina A&T State; at the same time, Florida A&M will take on Norfolk State. Bethune-Cookman vs. Howard and South Carolina State vs. Morgan State will follow at 11 a.m.  

The championship is free and open to the public.
