NORFOLK, Va. (April 22) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference announced the pairings for the 2019 Tennis Championships set for Thursday through Saturday, April 25-27 at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
Both FAMU teams earned spots in their respective fields and will open play in Thursday’s quarterfinal round.
@ The FAMU Women (9-13, 4-1 MEAC) will be the Southern Division’s Number Two seed, and will face Delaware State, the Northern Division’s Number Three seed at 11:00 a.m.
The Lady Rattlers have won four MEAC crowns overall (1987, 1988, 1991, 1997) and aim to end their long title drought this year.
Friday’s Women’s semifinal matches will start at at 9:00 a.m., and Saturday’s title match will also start at 9:00 a.m.
@ The FAMU Men (1-17, 1-3 MEAC) have persevered through a rebuilding campaign this spring, and will weigh in as the Southern Division’s Number Four seed, earning the quarterfinal match against Northern top seed Morgan State at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
The Rattlers are just two years removed from a MEAC title in 2017, and have won seven (7) all told (1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 2000, 2017) since winning the first of five straight in 1991.
Friday’s semifinals in the Men’s Division start at 12 noon, as does Saturday’s championship bout.
Championship winners will receive automatic bids to their respective NCAA Tournaments in May.
