BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Oct. 18) – The FAMU Women’s Volleyball team dropped a four-set, late morning road match Wednesday at UAB, falling 3-1 (15-25, 22-25, 25-13, 18-25) at Bartow Arena.
FAMU (7-11 overall) was without sophomore outside Nicole Abreu, who missed the match with an undisclosed issue.
After dropping the opening set, 25-15, FAMU pushed harder against the Blazers (10-14), dropping the second set by a narrow 25-22, before winning the third set, 25-13. UAB closed out the match with a 25-18 showing in the fourth period.
Sophomore outside Maria Yvett Garcia led FAMU with 10 kills, followed by MEAC Rookie of the Week middle Candelaria Herrera with nine kills, and sophomore Radka Dimitrova with eight kills.
Senior setter Valeria Lopez finished the match with 32 assists, while junior Valentina Carrasco led FAMU with 16 digs, followed by junior Nair Canessa with 12.
WHAT’S NEXT: Florida A&M returns to action next Friday, Oct. 27 against South Carolina State (7:00) in the Al Lawson Center.
