Tallahassee, Fl. (Oct. 27) – The FAMU Women’s Volleyball team swept the Lady Bulldogs of South Carolina state Friday night, 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-13) home at the Al Lawson Center.
FAMU is now 8-12 overall with only five matches to go until the MEAC volleyball championship in Baltimore, MD.
After a slow start to the first set, ending in a 25-14 win, FAMU slid past the Bulldog’s defense, using this momentum to win the second set, 25-14, to finally finish strong with a 25-13 closer.
Sophomore outside hitter Maria Yvett Garcia led FAMU with 19 kills, followed by last week’s MEAC Rookie of the Week, middle blocker Candelaria Herrera with 18 kills, and sophomore Radka Dimitrova with 13 kills.
Senior setter Valeria Lopez came out of the game with 24 assists, an even amount of digs all around the board with a team total of 36 digs.
WHAT’S NEXT: Florida A&M returns to action this Sunday, Oct. 29 against Savannah State (3:00p.m.) in the Al Lawson Center.
