Tallahassee, Fl. (Oct. 29) – The FAMU Women’s Volleyball team added another win to their season as they finish off the Savannah State Lady Tigers, 3-1 (25-14, 25-14, 25-13) Sunday night at the Al Lawson Center.
FAMU is now 9-11 overall and 6-1 in the MEAC.
Sophomore outside hitter Maria Yvett Garcia led FAMU with 15 kills, followed by sophomore Radka Dimitrova with 10.
Senior setter Valeria Lopez came out of the game with 41 assists, and starting libero Valentina Carrasco coming out with a total of 19 digs.
Starting out with energy and momentum in the first set, 25-13, FAMU blew away the Lady Tigers but the drop in energy led to a close second set, 25-19. Savannah State kicked it into high gear in the third set and put up quite a fight. FAMU would lose the set, 24-26. The team drew energy from the loss as the Lady Rattlers turned up the heat in the fourth earning the overall victory, 25-14.
WHAT’S NEXT: Florida A&M returns to action next Sunday, Nov. 5 against arch-rival Bethune Cookman (3:00 p.m.) in the Al Lawson Center.
