FAMU Falls To Eastern Michigan and McNeese State

LAFAYETTE, La. | The Florida A&M University volleyball team opened the 2019 Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic on Friday afternoon with a pair of 3-1 losses to Eastern Michigan and McNeese State at the Earl K. Long Gym.


MATCH 1 (vs. Eastern Michigan)

The Lady Rattlers dropped the opening two sets, 25-17, 25-17, but cut the deficit to 2-1 with a 25-19 third-set victory. However, the Eagles completed the win in the fourth set, 25-12.


Alexis Gosha paced the Florida A&M offense with 12 kills and nine digs. Elena Dimitrova finished with a double-double of 21 assists and 12 digs, while Celeste Rodriguez led the way defensively with 16 digs.


Franki Strefling registered 13 kills and 17 digs to lead Eastern Michigan. Cassie Haut and Carissa Spalt recorded 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Riley Taylor and Jayden Otto each added 17 assists. Defensively, Otto and Cam Schomer posted 12 digs.


MATCH 2 (vs. McNeese State)

In the nightcap against McNeese, Florida A&M took the opening set, 25-17, but lost the next three sets, 29-27, 25-20, 25-12.


Alexis Gosha and Alexys Mann paced the Lady Rattler offensive attack with 14 and 10 kills, respectively, while Elena Dimitrova added a 39 assists. Defensively, Celeste Rodriguez finished with a match-high 24 digs. Gosha completed the double-double with 14 digs and Maria Yvett Garcia chipped in with 10.


Macee Krpec led the charge for McNeese with 14 kills, while Alexis Lambert and Allison Lippert recorded 13 and 12. Kendall Kilchrist registered a match-high 42 assists and 15 digs. Angela McGownd and Keegan Nelms posted 18 and 10 digs, respectively.

Inside the Numbers
> Against EMU, Florida A&M registered 33 kills and 19 errors on 129 total attacks (.109 hitting percentage)

> Eastern Michigan hit .282 (60 kills, 18 errors, 149 total attacks)

> The Lady Rattlers tallied 62 digs, 31 assists, 6.0 total team blocks and four service aces

> The Eagles finished with 69 digs, 55 assists, 5.0 total team blocks and four service aces

> Against McNeese, Florida A&M registered 45 kills and 23 errors on 142 total attacks (.155 hitting percentage)

> McNeese State hit .231 (57 kills and 21 errors on 156 total attacks)

> The Lady Rattlers tallied 69 digs, 43 assists, 11.0 total team blocks and two service aces

> The Cowgirls finished with 63 digs, 54 assists, 7.0 total team blocks and four service aces.
