TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | Maria Yvett Garcia finished with a match-high 19 kills, along with six digs, but the Florida A&M University volleyball team ended the FAMU/FSU Invite with a 3-1 loss to Stony Brook on Saturday afternoon at the Al Lawson Center.
The Seawolves (2-8) took the opening set, 25-20, but Florida A&M (1-9) answered with a 29-27 second-set victory to tie the match at 1. However, Stony Brook took the final two sets, 25-16, 25-23.
Garcia posted 19 kills and hit .265 for the match to pace the Florida A&M offense. Alexis Gosha added a double-double of 12 kills and 10 digs, along with a pair of assists, while Ilayda Nurkan and Elena Dimitrova registered 24 and 18 assists, respectively. Celeste Rodriguez led the way defensively with a team-high and match-high 17 digs.
Amiyah De’Long finished with 15 kills, while Maria Poole added 10 to lead Stony Brook. Julia Kim tallied a match-high 41 assists and 11 digs for the double-double. Kiani Kerstetter and Kardasia Hitchock recorded 15 and 13 digs, respectively.

Florida A&M returns to action Sept. 20-21 at the Troy Invite in Troy, Ala. The Lady Rattlers will face Southern at 4:30 p.m. on Friday and conclude the tournament with matches against The Citadel and Troy on Saturday.
