SATURDAY - Rattlers Strike Early To Take Game Two At B-CU-
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Mar. 9) – The Florida A&M Baseball team took the early lead against rival Bethune-Cookman Saturday and never relented in a 6-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Southern Division win at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
FAMU (6-12, 1-1 MEAC) scored all six of their runs in the first three innings to forge a 6-0 lead. The Rattlers plated single tallies in the first and second innings, before a four-run outbreak put them way out front.
The Rattlers rode the pitching of Josh Hancock (1-2), who worked six complete innings, allowing three runs on four hits, with four strikeouts against three walks. Jamie Grant came on in the seventh to work two scoreless innings, followed by Jeremiah McCollum who turned in a scoreless ninth.
Octavien Moyer, Brett Maxwell and Jared Weber each had two hits for FAMU. Willis McDaniel drove in a pair of runs for the Rattlers, while Maxwell, Weber and Ryan Coscarella each picked up an RBI.
ON DECK: FAMU and Bethune-Cookman will close their three-game conference-opening series here Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
FRIDAY: Bethune-Cookman Scores Early For Game One Win
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Mar. 8) – The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats opened the best-of-three Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Southern Division baseball series with archrival FAMU, scoring six runs in the first inning en route to a 7-1 victory at Jackie Robinson Stadium Friday evening.
The Rattlers (5-12, 0-1 MEAC) scored their lone run in the top of the fourth, but the Wildcats answered back with a single tally in the seventh.
Seyjuan Lawrence led FAMU with two of the team’s six hits. Tucker Rayburn, Kaycee Reese, Willie McDaniel and Jared Weber also had hits for FAMU.
FAMU starting pitcher Kyle Coleman (1-2) worked six and two-thirds innings Friday, allowing six runs on seven hits, with six strikeouts.
