Game 1: Greensboro, NC. (March 6th, 2018) – The Rattlers came into their series with the Aggies of North Carolina A&T State University looking for their fourth straight victory in MEAC play.
Florida A&M started strong with a solo homerun by Jacky Miles (2) in the top of the first inning, giving them an early 1-0 lead.
NC A&T answered in the fourth inning. Adan Ordonez singled to center field to drive in AJ Hunt. Dawnoven Smith then scored on a wild pitch to make it a 2-1 game in favor of the Aggies after four innings of play.
The Aggies added to their lead in the sixth. Myles Sowell doubled to left center, driving in Ryne Stanley to make it a 3-1 game after six innings.
Unfortunately, two runs was not enough, as NC A&T took game one by a final score of 3-2. Tim Luth threw 6 innings, giving up two runs, earning the win for the Aggies. Josh Bottenfield threw the final three frames of the game, allowing no runs.
Game 2: Greensboro, NC (March 6th, 2018) – After a one run loss in game one, FAMU hoped to split the double header in game two.
NC A&T quickly responded by breaking the game open with a ten run first inning that included homeruns by Milton Rivera and Dawnoven Smith, a triple by Forest Kimbrell, and doubles by Adan Ordonez and Dawnoven Smith.
NC A&T extended the lead by a run in the bottom half when Forest Kimbrell scored on a wild pitch. After five innings of play, the Aggies led 11-3.
William Brooks answered with a solo homerun to right field to cut the NC A&T lead to 11-4 heading into the bottom of the sixth.
The Aggies added two more insurance runs in their half of the sixth. Ryne Stanley tripled to center field to drive in Camden Williamson, and then scored on a base hit by Myles Sowell to give NC A&T a 13-4 lead.
This lead was enough for NC A&T, as they would go on to win by a final score of 13-4. Marcello Betances got the win, allowing three runs through 5 innings of work.
Ryan Anderson was handed his third loss of the season, allowing six earned runs through 0.2 innings of work. Chandellor Benton came in to close out the first inning, and Deven Shulstad tossed the next 3 scoreless frames. William Walter started the fifth inning but gave way to Pedro de los Rios after recording one out. De los Rios would then record the first out of the sixth before Josh Wilson entered the game to record the final two outs for the Rattlers.
The losses drop FAMU to 14-20 on the season and 7-4 in MEAC play. The Rattlers will look to come home with a win on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
