FAMU Men To Open MEAC Tourney vs. S.C. State
By: Florida A&M Sports Information
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Mar. 3) – With their regular seasons concluded Thursday night, the Florida A&M University (FAMU) basketball teams are now focused on next week’s Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament at The Scope in Norfolk, Va.

Both FAMU squads learned their opening round opponents early Friday and they will both be facing the teams from South Carolina State.

@ The FAMU Women (11-18, 9-7 MEAC) earned the No. 4 seed and will open the tourney Monday at 11:00 a.m. against No. 13  S.C. State (5-22, 2-14).

FAMU just defeated the Lady Bulldogs last Saturday in Orangeburg, 81-61, in their only meeting of the season.

A win by the FAMU Women would send them to Thursday’s 2:00 p.m. quarterfinal round game against the Norfolk State-Delaware State winner.

@ The Rattler Men (7-22, 5-11 MEAC) will be making their first MEAC Tournament appearance since 2014, after NCAA academic penalties kept them sidelined the past two years.

FAMU will face No. 7 seed South Carolina State (10-19, 7-9) in Tuesday’s 6:00 p.m. opening round game, and the Rattlers are determined to reverse last Saturday’s outcome, when they dropped a 75-64 decision in Orangeburg.

A victory would send the Rattlers to Wednesday’s quarterfinal round against No. 2 seeded Norfolk State (15-15, 12-4 MEAC), at 8:00 p.m.

TOURNAMENT NOTES: The MEAC has a dedicated website for the basketball tournament, www.MEACHoops.com, where event updates, streaming video and live statistics for all games can be accessed online.

The Championship round will be Saturday, March 11, with the Men’s title game at 1:00 p.m. on ESPN2, followed one hour later by the Women’s title tilt, which will air on ESPNU.
