Rattler Cagers Return Home To Face Albany State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Nov. 19) - The FAMU Men's Basketball Team return returns home to the Al Lawson Center for a Monday Night Lights battle against former conference rival Albany (Ga,.) State. Tipoff is at 7:00 p.m.

Both teams come into the Lawson Center aiming for their first victory of the season.

FAMU (0-4) has played the first portion of a challenging Road Warrior type schedule, as 14 of their first 17 non-conference games slated for November and December are away from Tallahassee.

Coach Robert McCullum's crew has been intense and competitive in their road bouts so far, with their tour stops last week taking them to the University of Miami and Mississippi State.

@ Last Thursday, the Rattlers dropped a 90-59 verdict to the Hurricanes in Coral Gables, Fla., Senior wingman Marcus Barahm had the hot hand for FAMU, with a game-high 22 points, highlighted by him knocking down four (4) three-pointers on the night. Craig Bowman added nine points and a team-high six rebounds, while frontliners Isaiah Martin and Desmond Williams added eight (8) points apiece.

@ On Saturday, FAMU took on the Mississippi State Bulldogs in Starkville, Miss., losing a 79-48 decision. The Bulldogs, which led by just 11 points, 29=8-17 at the half, opened the second half with a 20-1 scoring surge to pull away from the gritty and determined Rattlers.

Barham and Williams led the way for FAMU with 15 and 14 points respectively, with Barham sinking a trio of shots from distance Saturday.

Williams led FAMU with eight rebounds, while 7-0 transfer Isaiah Martin added seven points and five rebounds. Barham and Nick Severado each pulled down five boards, while Nasir Core and Kamron Reaves scored five points each.


Williams and Barham, who were both Preseason All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference selections, are tied for the club lead in scoring, both averaging 14.5 points per game through four games.

Both are tied for the club lead in steals with four, along with newcomer Javonni Harrell, while Barham is the club's three-point ace thus far with 11 made shots from distance in 31 tries (.355).

Williams and Isaiah Martin are tied for the club rebounding lead at 6.5 per game, with Martin also averaging 9.8 points per game and shooting a robust .571 from the field, along with a team-best nine blocked shots so far.


The Albany State (Ga.) University Rams will come into the Lawson Center 0-4, following Friday's 77-69 loss to Catawba (N.C.) College.

Coach by Michael Moore, husband of FAMU's Director of Track and Filed, Dr. Darlene Moore, the Rams willbe led by Rahdin Hughes, a 6-0 snioro guard averaging 14.5 points per game and 5.0 rebounds, and Ja Don Davis, a 6-2 sophomore guard who is averaging 12.0 points per game.


Monday's bout tips off a week chock full of hoops action for the Rattlers, who head north for a Wednesday night clash with the Bison of North Dakota State (7:00 p.m. Central) and a Friday encounter at Wisconsin Green Bay (6:00 p.m. Central).

They will then head to the Lone Star State of Texas to close out the month of November, starting Sunday at Stephen F. Austin in Nacadoches, Tex., at 2:00 p.m. Central, followed by a duel with the University of Texas Longhorns in Austin on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at 7:00 p.m. Central Time.
