Rattlers Fall To Bears Behind 22 From Barham
By: Florida A&M Sports Information

BALTIMORE, MD (Jan. 6) – The Florida A&M Rattlers (2-16, 1-1 MEAC) put up a valiant effort, but were unable to overcome the onslaught of scoring from Morgan State (6-9. 2-0 MEAC) ballers Tiwian Kendley and Phillip Carr, who combined for 67 points at Hill Field House on the campus of Morgan State University.

Marcus Barham led the Rattlers with 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the field, including 4-of-8 from three-point range. Desmond Williams also scored in double-figures with 16 points, while Justin Ravenel scored 11 points on 3-of-5 shooting from the three-point arc.

“We fell behind early, right out of the gate. We got down 14-2. We finally got ourselves together and bounced back and got within three points with a number of opportunities to tie it or take the lead. So, we felt good considering how poorly we played the first half. Unfortunately, we came out the first four minutes of the second half and it kind of got away from us,” FAMU head coach Robert McCullum said.

Kendley and Carr combined for just one point less than the entire FAMU team. MSU shot 50.9 percent from the field in the game; scoring at a 60 percent clip in the first half. The scoring success was not due to a lack of defensive effort, but an exceptional scoring display. Carr, was 11-of-13 from the field, while Kendley nailed four three-pointers.

The Rattlers shot a respectable 40.4 percent from the field. Two bright spots for the Rattlers were the second chance points where they outscored the Bears 17-9 and bench points, where the Rattler carried a 16-12 advantage.

What’s next: The Rattlers will remain in the frigid northeast to face the Coppin State Eagles on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
