Washington D.C. (Feb. 3) – Without the services of two of five of the team’s starters, the FAMU Lady Rattlers (4-18, 2-7 MEAC) were outlasted 76 – 65 by the Howard Lady Bison (8-13 ,4-4MEAC) at Burr Gymnasium on the campus of Howard University on Saturday.

FAMU trailed HU for the entire game after the first quarter, with the largest lead of 25 points coming in the fourth quarter.

"We played hard tonight.  I give the young ladies who were on that floor tonight credit for leaving it all out there.  When you don't have two of your five starters in place, it's tough to win any game in the MEAC.  But, I thought our young ladies fought and they played off of each other.  Unfortunately, in the end it's another tough loss for us," head coach LeDawn GIbson said.

Senior forward, Shakeyrra Morrison would collect the bulk of the rebounds and points for the Lady Rattlers finishing the contest with 17 rebounds and 19 total points for a double-double.

Senior guard, Ecenur “E” Yurdakul finished the game with 14 points followed by senior guard, Dawn King, who was played closely, but still contributed 13 points, finishing the game with three three-pointers.

The Lady Rattlers tied the Lady Bison in offensive rebounds, 22, and led the Bison 20-17 in second chance points.

Failure to get back on fast breaks and points allowed in the paint would be one difference in the contest. The Lady Rattlers fell 10 points shy of the Lady Bison with only 26 points in the paint to 36 for HU.

With the shortness in personnel, everyone on the Rattler bench played except for senior guard Florence Ouattara who struck with an unspecified condition, but expected to return to the lineup on Monday.

While the FAMU bench was emptied, the Lady Bison were able to hold them to eight points compared to the Lady Bison’s 29 bench points.

HU was led by sophomore guard Sarah Edmond, who recorded a game high of 20 points. Freshman guard Jayla Thornton accounted for 14 points, while sophomore forward, Imani Bryant lead the team in rebounds collecting a total of eight.

The Lady Rattlers will travel to Princess Anne, Maryland and take on the Lady Eagles of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
