CORAL GABLES, Fla. (Dec. 30) - The FAMU Women's Basketball team wrapped up its' pre conference schedule here Sunday afternoon with a 78-34 loss to the Tulane (La.) University Green Wave in the final day of the University of Miami Holiday Classic at the Watsco Center.
A cold shooting performance hampered FAMU early on, as they fell behind 15-9 after the first quarter. The Rattlers scored just two points in the second stanza, allowing the Wave to push out to a 34-11 halftime lead.
FAMU shot 28.2 percent for the game (15 of 53), going 3 of 12 from dsitance for 25.9 percent, while Tulane finished at 44.9 percent (31 of 69) and 46 percent (7 of 15) from downtown.
Tulane pulled away in the third period, shooting 55 percent (11 of 20), splashing a pair of three-pointers to outpace FAMU, 25-9, to take a 59-19 lead into the final frame. The Wave closed the game with a 19-15 fourth quarter for the 78-34 final.
FAMU's Autumn Goram led the way with 13 points, followed by All-tournament selection Candice Williams and Jasmine Ballew with six points each. Dy'Manee Royal led FAMU on the boards with eight rebounds Sunday.
Tulane (10-3) had four players score in double figures, led by Erin Gutierrez with 19 point and Dynah Jones with 16 points. Tatyana Lofton added 15 points and Krystal Freeman scored 10 points for the Wave, which got a game high nine rebounds from Harlyn Wyatt.
WHAT'S NEXT: FAMU (2-10) opens their 2019 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference slate this Saturday, January 5 at Howard University (2:00 p.m.) in Burr Gymnasium in Washington, D.C. They will travel to Norfolk, Va., for a Monday night (6:00) clash with Norfolk State at Echols Hall, before returning home of their first January home bout, Saturday, January 12 against Savannah State (2:00).
