WASHINGTON, D.C. (Jan. 5) -The FAMU Women's Basketball team dropped their Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opener on the road to Howard University. 74-68 at Burr Gym in Washington, D.C. Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Mya Moye, a Washington, D.C. native, finished with 22 points, followed by grad transfer Candice Williams with 18, and junior Dy'Manee Royal with 13.
The Rattlers trailed 48-29 at the half, but outscored the Bison, 24-9 in the third period to close to three-points, 57-53 with 10 minutes left.
That third quarter explosion was part of a 30-9 scoring surge which briefly put FAMU ahead, 59-57 on a Royal three-point play with 7:48 left.
Howard University (8-6, 1-0 MEAC) regained control of the game midway throyugh the fourth quarter, outscoring the Rattlers, 17-9 to close out the game.
FAMU NOTES: Saturday's game marked the return home for freshman guard Mya Moye, a two-time City Women's Player of the Year in the D.C. Area. In her last appearance in Burr Gym, the Anacostia High star scored 50 points last March.
