OMAHA, Neb. (Nov. 19) - The FAMU Women's Basketball team played their best game of the young season here Sunday, pushing Nebraska Omaha to the limit before dropping a 78-73 road decision.
Four Rattler Women scored in double figures led by Florence Ouattara with 20 points, six rebounds, six assists, one block and one steal. Shalunda Burney Robinson had 14 points and eight rebounds. Guard Dawn King finished with 14 points, with a trio of three-pointers, and forward Shakeyrra Morrison scored 11 points, and pulled down a team-best nine rebounds. FAMU also got six points apiece from Gabrielle Holston and Ama Arkorful.
FAMU led 18-17 after the first period, shooting 41 percent to 40 percent for Omaha, and they remained in contention in the second period, despite Omaha edging them out 21-15, to grab a 38-33 halftime lead.
The Rattlers outscored the Mavericks (2-2), 21-17 in the third period to close within one points, 55-54 with 10 minutes left.
In the final stanza, the Mavericks pushed ahead for good with a 23-19 run to close the game.
Courtney Vaccher led the Mavs with 18 points.
WHAT'S NEXT: FAMU (0-4) will host Sacred Heart in their 2017-18 home opener Wednesday at 12 Noon at the Al Lawson Center.
