BALTIMORE. MD (Jan. 6) – The Florida A&M Lady Rattlers (3-12, 1-1 MEAC) scored in spurts, leading to a 61-56 loss to the Morgan State Bears (9-6, 2-0 MEAC) at the Hill Field House on the campus of Morgan State University.

The Lady Rattlers were led by Florence Ouattara, who scored 18 points. She scorched the Bears for 16 points in the first half, but was able to score ust two points in the second half. Dy'Manee Royal added nine points, while Shalaunda Burney-Robinson added six points. Burney-Robinson led the team with 11 rebounds, with Ecenur Yurdakul and Shakeyrra Morrison collecting four each.

“We lacked intensity. We didn't play hard the entire game and bring energy the whole 40 minutes. Our free throws also killed us. We didn't do well from the line tonight,” said head coach LeDawn Gibson. FAMU shot 53.6 percent from the free throw line, making just 15 of 28 attempts.

Morgan State was led by a duo of double-figure scorers. Tykyrah Williams had 18 points and Braennan Farrar added 13. Williams carded a double-double, hauling in 12 rebounds. The Lady Rattlers' shooting woes went from 38.71 percent in the first half to 29.17 percent in the second half. Three-point shooting was 28.57 percent in the first half and just 16.67 percent in the second.

The Lady Rattlers' poor shooting to start the second half led to seven straight points being scored by the Bears. The Rattler bench outscored MSU's bench by an 18-11 margin. MSU scored six fast break points, while FAMU scored none. FAMU never led in the game and went down by as much as 13 points in the second half.

Gibson and the Lady Rattlers now turn their attention to another MEAC opponent on Monday as they will face cross-town foe Coppin State. “We've got to get some rest this evening, go to practice on Sunday and face the Eagles on Monday,” Gibson said. CSU is coming off a66-57 win over the Savannah State Lady Tigers.

What's next: The Lady Rattlers will face the Coppin State Eagles on Monday at the Coppin State Physical Education Center at 5:30 p.m.
