DELAND, Fla. (Dec. 20) – The FAMU Women’s Basketball team fell behind early and never made up ground as they fell to host Stetson University, 69-44, in the opening round of the Stetson Invitational Tournament at the Edmunds Center Thursday afternoon.
FAMU trailed, 36-25 at the half, thanks to shooting 38 percent from the floor to Stetson’s 48 percent. Freshman Mya Moye led FAMU in the first half with 12 points, having hit a trio of three-pointers in the first half.
In the third period, the Hatters (3-8) rode a 22-9 scoring surge to extend their lead to 24 points, 58-34 heading into the fourth quarter, then closed out the game edging out the Rattlers, 11-10 on the scoreboard.
Moye, led FAMU with 18 points, knocking down 5 of 10 three-pointers. Grad transfer Candice Williams finished with seven points and four assists. Junior Dy`Manee Royal had six points and seven rebounds, followed by junior Taylor Darks and freshman Keziah Dilworth, who added five points apiece.
Stetson was paced by Addi Walters with 16 points, followed by McKenna Beach with 12 points, and Sarah Sagerer with 11 points and nine rebounds.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR FAMU: The Rattlers (2-7) will close out the Stetson Invitational Friday against Western Michigan. Game time will be 3:00 p.m. at the Edmunds Center.
