DAYTONA BEACH, Fla (Mar. 7) – The Florida A&M Lady Rattlers (4-24, 2-14 MEAC) fell to the rival Bethune-Cookman Lady Wildcats (18-10, 11-5 MEAC), 70-60 in the MEAC finale for both teams today at Historic Moore Gymnasium on the campus of Bethune-Cookman University.

In the first half, the Lady Rattlers got down by as much as 18.  Using a stoudt zone defense, the Lady Rattlers fought back to within single digits, ending the half at a 41-32 deficit.

Candice Williams led the lady Rattlers with 12 points in the first half.  She finished the game with 17 points on 4-of-9 shooting, 4-of-8 from the three-point arc.  She hit 5-of-7 free throws, had three rebounds, two assists and two steals for a complete game effort.

FAMU interim women’s head coach Kevin Lynum was pleased with the effort of the short-handed team, which was missing two of the team’s top two scorers.  “I am pleased with the effort our young ladies put out tonight. I couldn’t ask for more from them. They got down big in the first half, but fought their way back into the game,” said Lynum.

Jhakya Dilworth had one of her most productive games of the season, pouring in 12 points on 3-of-5 shooting from the field and 6-of-7 free throws.  Dy’Manee Royal and Tyra James both pulled down 10 rebounds each.

FAMU and B-CU were even in points on the inside with the Rattlers scoring 20 to Bethune-Cookman’s 22. The Rattlers committed 15 turnovers, yielding nine points for the Wildcats.

Angel Golden led all scorers with 20 points on 8-of-18 shooting from the field, including 3-of-9 from the three-point line. Camary Harris joined her with 15 points as the only Lady Wildcats in double figures.

The Lady Rattlers will next travel to Norfolk, VA to participate in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Basketball Tournament that begins on Mon., Mar. 11 at the Scope Arena.
