PENSACOLA, Fla. (Jan. 28) - The Florida A&M University Women’s Bowling team played like a house afire this past weekend, rolling their way past the field to capture the 2018 Rattler Invitational Tournament title.
Coach Karen Brown’s club posted a sizzling 10-3 overall mark in the three-day event to boost their season record to 32-24, finishing ahead of second place Alabama State (9-4).
The Rattlers went a perfect 5-0 in Traditional Play, with wins over Bethune-Cookman (899-870), Belmont (814-813), Alabama State (948-914), Southern (802-719) and Alabama A&M (862-719).
In Baker play, the going was a bit tougher for the Rattlers, who posted a 2-3 record, with wins over Southern (831-825) and Grambling (793-699), while dropping match ups againat Alabama State (1,035 to 962), Alabama A&M (699-695) and Texas Southern (906-782).
FAMU swept through the championship bracket on Sunday, going a perfect 3-0, with wins over Alabama State (1,294 to 1,231), Grambling (La.) State (822 to 744), and Alabama State (1,313 to 1,279) in the final.
Overall, FAMU totaled 11,835 pins in 69 games for a best tournament average of 171.5, led by Keondra Eaton, who placed fourth overall in the Individual Standings with a five-game total of 908 (181.60), which featured a pair of 200 games (208, 202).
Monique Ragland (180.0), placed sixth, scoring back-to-back 200 games, and Jazmine Aron (179.80), place seventh. Demetria Bethel (168.80) had a 203 game while rolling an 844 total, and rounding out the FAMU contingent was Mikayla Davis (154.0 in three games) and Noel Bethany (166.0 in two games).
