Lady Rattlers Kick Up Dust at UCF Black & Gold

ORLANDO, Fla (Mar. 18) – The Florida A&M Lady Rattler track & field team made their mark in the UCF Black & Golf Challenge.  The Lady Rattlers had several top 10 finishes as they are on a trek of preparation leading to the 2017 MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Greensboro, NC.

Senior Ashley Ivey took home top honors in the triple jump, carding a 12.12m (39-09.25) leap to secure the top spot.  Freshman Tiara Corbett would follow suit, takin third place with a jump of 11.71m (38-05.00).

Junior standout Judith Kibii blazed to a first place finish of 17.53.69 in the 5,000m run.  Emma Kiplagat took fourth place with a time of 18:31.28.  Friday Limop placed sixth in 18:50.53, Caroline Kiplagat finished ninth in 19:10.37 to round out the runners in the top 10.

Freshman Alani Wood continues to impress, taking second place in the 100m hurdles with a posting of 14.24.  Corbett would take ninth in 15.10 and Ivey would come in at 15.24, good for 10th place overall.

The FAMU women’s 4x400m relay team took second place behind Marquette with a 3:51.79.  The team of Mia Lewis, Christina Moodie, Destiny Johnson and Wilena Little used solid handoffs and a gutsy effort to run to the runner up slot. Moodie took second place in the 400m run.  She navigated the oval in 59.19 

Mia Lewis carded a third place finish in the 400m hurdles, finishing the race with a 1:02.92 score.  

The Lady Rattlers also scored several top 10 finishes in the meet.  Cheyenne Brooks placed seventh overall in the pole vault, with a leap of 3.10m (10-02.00).  Ivan Ford took eighth place in the high jump.  She was able to muster a 1.58m vault to earn the placement.  Wood placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 5.34m (17-06.25).  

Alexandria Marshall-Paul placed third int he discus throw in 45.87m (150-06).  Olivia Simmons placed 10th in the discus with a toss of 36.96m (121-03).  Marshall-Paul and Benisha Johnson would also garner top 10 finishes in the hammer throw.  Marshall-Paul took seventh place with a throw of 51.60m (169-03), while Johnson bested at 43.86m (143-11).  

Andrea Aaron would take third in the javelin throw.  She threw the spear 40.82m (133-11).  She would also earn a top 10 in the shot put, heaving the shot 13.22m (43-04.50).  Junior Shontell Johnson would finish directly behind her, in seventh place, with a toss of 12.95m (42-06.00).
