ORLANDO, Fla (Mar. 18) – The Florida A&M Rattler track & field team continue the rebuilding process back to relevance with some notable performances at the UCF Black & Golf Challenge on the campus of the University of Central Florida at the UCF Soccer & Track Stadium.
Jamari Smith highlighted the Rattlers’ performance with a first place finish in the 400m dash. Smith navigated the trek in 47.90 for the fastest time in the collegiate division. Teammate Timothy Ashley took third place with a sprint of 49.00. Najee Boyer took ninth place in 50.37.
The 4x100m relay team sprinted to a second place finish in the meet with a 41.79 trip around the oval. The sprint team of Michael Poole, Ashley, Karus Hunter and Smith combined to finish just on the heels of Marquette University
The 4x400m relay team would also finish second, just behind the Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman. The team of Najee Boyer, Ashley, Hunter and Poole carded a 3:17.89.
Jocari Beattie took third place in the high jump with a 2.05m (6-08.75) clearing of the bar. Aaron Hanna took third place in the shot put with a toss of 14.39m (47-02.50). Jayson Francois placed third in the 110m hurdles running a 17.22.
Herendre’ Fair took third in the long jump with a leap of 6.68m (21-11.00).
The Rattlers took several Top 10 finishes in the meet. Poole would finish sixth in the 100m dash in 11.01, while Hunter took ninth in Hanna, a sophomore, took 10th place in the discus throw with 35.51m (116-06).
