GAINESVILLE, Fla. | The Florida A&M University men’s and women’s cross country teams were back in action early Saturday morning and competed in the Mountain Dew Invitational at the Mark Bostic Golf Course.
The Lady Rattlers placed 17th on the 5K course with 559 points as host Florida won the meet with 30 points. Tampa (107), North Florida (133), Troy (183), Southeastern (191), Florida Atlantic (224), Embry-Riddle (240), Central Florida (241), Anderson (265), Saint Leo (266), Florida Southern (292), Flagler (315), Florida International (343), South Florida (357), Nova Southeastern (465) and Florida Gulf Coast (489) finished second through 16th. Palm Beach Atlantic (575(, Pasco-Hernado State (581), Lynn (586), Georgia College (610), Auburn-Montgomery (614), ASt. Thomas (619), Valdosta State (625), West Florida (653), Florida Tech (691), Jacksonville (755), Daytona State (757), Seminole State (855), Bethune-Cookman (865), Mobile (867), FSCJ (Jacksonville) (1012), Lake Sumter State (1013), Rollins (1023) and Florida College (1044) rounded out the 35-team field.
Mercy Rotich paced Florida A&M with a 37th-place finish, with a time of 19:20.16, while Shalet Mitei finished 45th at 19:31.95. Emmax Kiplagat came across the line at 20:22.74 and Sharon Kibiwott finished in 23:00.29. Itiana Redding also competed and completed the race.
On the men’s side, Florida A&M finished 25th on the 8K course with 644 points as Florida won the meet with 40 points. North Florida (53), Embry-Riddle (142), Saint Leo (168), Flagler (182), Florida Southern (190), Florida Gulf Coast (244), Tampa (292), South Florida (304), Auburn-Montgomery (309), Anderson (316), Troy (337), Valdosta State (356), Lynn (371), Palm Beach Atlantic (421), Southeastern (484), West Florida (486), Florida Tech (498), Florida Atlantic (518), Georgia College (529), Nova Southeastern (557), St. Thomas (616), Lake Sumter State (658) and Seminole State (662) placed second through 24th. Bethune-Cookman (736), FSCJ (Jacksonville) (767), Florida Colege (788), Daytona State (836), Jacksonville (940) and Edward Waters (967) rounded out the 31-team field.
Festus Kemboi finished 40th to lead FAMU with a time of 27:03.58. Jordan Nance, Jaylyn Scott, Brandon Love and Pache Caldwell also completed the race.
Both Florida A&M teams will be back in action on Oct. 11 at the FSU Invitational, hosted by Florida State University, in Tallahassee, Fla.
