Rattler XC Teams compete at FSU Invitational

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | The Florida A&M University men’s and women’s cross country teams were back in action early Friday morning at the FSU Invitational held at the Apalachee Regional Park.


The Lady Rattlers placed 15th with 394 points as Florida won the meet with 29 points. Florida State (63) finished second, followed by Tampa (127), North Florida (131), Central Florida (196), South Florida (211), North Alabama (213), Embry-Riddle (239), Stetson (261), Georgia Southern (289), Alabama State (307), New Orleans (339), Florida International (342) and Nova Southeastern (384). Valdosta State (403), West Florida (412), Florida Tech (505), Georgia Southwestern (524), Tallahassee Community College (614), University of the Bahamas (614), Fscj Jacksonville (629), Florida Gateway (683) and Chipola College (707) rounded out the 24-team field.


Mercy Rotich paced Florida A&M with a 30th-place finish, with a time of 18 minutes and 32 seconds on the 5K course. Shalet Mitei crossed the line in 68th, with a time of 19:33.3, while Emmax Kiplagat placed 88th at 19:57.6. Sharon Kibiwott and Itiana Redding also competed for the Lady Rattlers.


On the men’s side, Florida A&M did not register a team score as Florida won the meet with 34 points. North Florida (37) claimed the second spot, followed by Stetson (111), Embry-Riddle (142), North Alabama (156), New Orleans (182), Miami (199), Tampa (230), Florida Tech (272), South Florida (279), West Florida (286), Valdosta State (316), Alabama State (352), Florida International (402), Nova Southeastern (418), Fscj Jacksonville (465), Thomas (548), Tallahassee CC (572), Mobile (574) and the University of the Bahamas (623) rounded out the scoring.


Brian Kiprop led the way for Florida A&M as he finished 30th, with a time of 26:00.1. Jordan Nance, Brandon Love and Jaylyn Scott also competed in the event.

Both Florida A&M teams will be back in action on Oct. 18 at the Blazer Classic, hosted by the University of Alabama in Birmingham, in Montevallo, Ala.
